A group that I’ve gotten involved in recently is an outreach program through Campus Crusade (Cru). One of my Bible study leaders is a business major, just like me. She decided to begin an outreach program amongst other business majors. So she started having weekly meetings, which led to brainstorming for event ideas, which eventually led to actually planning the event!
Our event involves a guest speaker discussing the question, “Can faith play a role in business?” Here’s what the Facebook event page has to say:

As business school students, we often learn about success, making a profit, and beating the competition, but where does faith fit into the hustle and bustle of the business world? Come find out what Randy Tempest has to say about this topic. Mr. Tempest is a Ball State graduate working as the Director of Business Development for Receivables Management Partners. He has been involved with the youth at Harvest Fellowship Church for many years. He is passionate about this topic and will be coming to Ball State to talk about his experiences related to faith and business in the professional world.”
If you are a business major at Ball State (and even if you aren’t!), come hear what our guest speaker has to say about this interesting topic. To be honest, I don’t even know what he has to say! However, it promises to be an enlightening experience when it comes to having faith in business.

It's Cru Formal Time!
At the end of January, Campus Crusade for Christ had their annual formal event. This is a really fun evening where everybody in Cru dresses up in their most formal attire for dancing, pictures, and food! It’s a really great night to meet other members of Cru, make new friends, and have a good time with your friends.
Each year, I attend with my Bible study. We always spend a while choosing our dresses, doing our hair and nails, and hanging out. It’s a great chance to become closer with your small group, like my Bible study. Here are some photos from the night!

Greater Than Me
It’s hard to believe Winter Break is completely over, everyone’s moved back into the dorms, and classes have begun already! It seems like just yesterday I was excitedly packing my car to head home. Where does the time go?
Well, mine went into a roller coaster of a break! I spent most of the first week at my job – working retail during the holiday season is stressful! It was a great learning experience though and now I can proudly say I’ve survived the holiday shopping rush!
Christmas arrived before I knew it and our family was together exchanging gifts. The best part of the holidays is spending time with family, I think. And friends too! It was really nice to get together and catch up with some friends from back home over winter break. I especially enjoyed spending time with my boyfriend and his family and then having him visit with mine.
I have to say, though, a truly great experience from Winter Break was the Indianapolis Christmas Conference. It’s a gathering of all the Great Lake Campus Crusade (CRU) groups, which included over 2,000 students! The days were filled with excellent speakers, inspirational breakout sessions, incredible worship, moving outreach time, and fun fellowship!
Over four days I made a lot of new friends from my school and others, all the while learning so much about what God is Greater Than (that was the theme of the conference!). It was amazing how much valuable information was given to us in such a short period of time. For me personally, I found a new understanding of my identity in Christ, expanded my idea of love by miles, and so much more that I can apply to my walk with the Lord. IndyCC was a time of fellowship, worship, learning, and growth. And it was definitely an experience I will never forget! I’m already looking forward to next year!

Connecting
One of the best things I’ve done since coming to Ball State is joining Cru. For those of you who enjoyed being part of a youth group through your church at home, religious organizations at BSU are the next step! Surrounding yourself with students as passionate about their faith as you are (or would like to be) is the best way to grow!
Whether you are Christian, Catholic, Lutheran, or something else entirely, there is a place for you! For me, personally, I joined Cru about a year ago through a Bible study in my dorm. It’s a Christian organization that meets once a week, with small groups that meet another night each week. Most of my best friends now are girls I met through Cru and Bible study. Not only have I grown in fellowship through Cru, but also in my faith. I have learned so much in my walk with the Lord this past year!
Some of the other most popular organizations on campus are Intervarsity, Navigators, and Baptist Collegiate Ministry. There are other great organizations too, like Grace Village and Catholic Student Union. Some of Ball State’s religious organizations invite members of the community to join their services each week, like the Revolution and Common Way. For those of you interested in learning about other religions, there are groups like the Religious Studies club that I just learned about the other day.
Honestly, I have only brushed the surface of what BSU has to offer for your spiritual connections. I've provided links where I could find them, but there are a total of 32 organizations available to you! One for One
Tonight, I’m sitting in my room thinking about how quickly my first year of college has flown by. I’m also sitting here completely amazed at how much has changed, how much I’ve changed. I still marvel at the fact that we’ll be moving out in just three weeks – some days it seems like we just moved in!
But most of the time it doesn’t feel that way.. Because things aren’t the same as they were in August. For one thing, I have wayyyyy more friends than I think I’ve ever had. They’re pretty fantastic – without them, my year would have been totally different. My class of Miller Honors students has become more of a close-knit group of friends (being stuck on a bus for 3 hours together does that to you). You know what else is different? I’m a Christian now! Being part of my Bible study and CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ) has truly changed my life.
Coming to Ball State has opened my eyes in so many ways. For one thing, I can now see how many incredible opportunities students have here. The possibilities are endless. Literally. Some days, my roommate and I are stressing about which opportunity to choose because there are so many! But I love it when we realize just how lucky we are to have these opportunities. The world is ours – I mean, really. I’m going to Europe on a field study next month! I never could have done that a year ago. My mind is now open to some amazing opportunities for internships over the next three years too.
Something else my eyes have been opened to this year is the fact that we are not alone on this world. College, and especially Ball State, presents so many opportunities to get involved in something bigger than yourself, whether it be in the local community or in the rest of the world. Let me tell you about something I recently experienced.
TOMS Shoes sponsors a really cool international event every year called “One Day Without Shoes.” The idea is that people around the world go barefoot for a day to spread awareness for those who never have the choice to wear shoes. TOMS has a one-for-one policy: for every pair of shoes bought, one pair is donated to a child in need. So cool! I just love this idea and decided to participate on April 5, 2011.
The photos below are from a barefoot walk entitled “Take the Walk” that coincided with One Day Without Shoes. About 50 of us walked a mile around campus in our bare feet!

Winter Weekend Update
This weekend has been one of the busiest of the whole year. It all started with CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ) Formal on Friday night. All the girls from my Bible study dressed up in our pretty dresses, curled our hair, and danced the night away. It was so much fun!
Saturday I went to my first college basketball game. We lost to Ohio 61-60, but it was a good game! I got to meet up with my great-aunt and great-uncle afterward for dinner too, and we had a great time. That evening, Becca and I got a futon in our room – finally!! We’ve been thinking about doing this for a long, long time. And we finally did it! Thank goodness for my dad’s friend and his son, who helped us move it in. It looks amazing and is so comfy!
Today has been filled with homework. All day. It’s been kind of a long day. The rest of the weekend was great though!
Last week, a prospective freshman came to visit the College of Business and sat in on my Econ class. As I was talking with her, I kept thinking about how cool of an opportunity she had. Even though I was almost certain about coming here last year, it would have been such a great experience to try out classes here before I made my decision. So my advice this week: sign up for a tour day and contact someone in your major department about sitting in on a class or two. I am sure it would be a great opportunity to see if BSU is a good fit for you!

Barn Bash 2010!
I just joined CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ) a couple weeks ago. I started going to my floor’s Bible study group and really enjoyed it. The girls that lead it do a really great job and I loved how welcoming they were, even though I joined about a month into school. Eventually, I made it to one of CRU’s weekly meetings and was so impressed! It seems like such a great group of people, who all share the same love of Christ.
So, this past Friday night, CRU hosted one of their (annual?) events: the Barn Bash! The minute I heard about it, I called Mom and told her to bring my cowgirl boots and hat when they were in town. So we got all dressed up and drove out to somebody’s barn about 15 minutes out of town. They literally had a dance in a barn – it was great!
There was dancing (Hoedown Throwdown was a MUST), a bonfire, hot apple cider, a pie eating contest, s’mores, a costume contest, and more. It was a really great night!
